ABOUT THE ARTIST

My recent work is painting on barn wood. I like the idea of taking something that is old and giving it a new purpose. I have always enjoyed painting, but recently decided to enroll in guitar making classes. This knowledge of woodworking gave me the idea of merging the two forms together. My approach to using this method is twofold.

First – to enhance the color and features of subject matter.

Second – use the tactile feel of the wood and emphasis it’s organic nature.

We have become a throw-away society.  The barn wood I am using for my artwork is over 100 years old. The paint I use is professional acrylic water-based and better for the environment. I seal the artwork with non-yellowing varnish which will protect the color and barn wood. I like to think of the wood as bones and the paint as skin. Between the two – mojo happens.

My purpose as an artist is to discover, examine and create – to find inspiration. I like to keep things simple, but add emotion to the mix. My artistic influences are: Georgia O’Keeffe, Milton Avery, Franz Kline, Paul Klee and Fritz Scholder.
